Zimbabwe Crime Watch: 26 September 2022

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported on several crimes committed recently around the country. The cases compiled by Pindula News include murder, theft, illegal movement, illegal possession of precious stones, animals, ammunition, and smuggling. We present below some of the most recent cases:

Human remains discovered:

Human remains, comprising legs up to knee level and burnt bones were found in an open space along Mutare Road near George Shops, Ruwa. Police in Ruwa received a report on Sunday 25 September 2022 and investigations are in progress.

Operation No to Illegal Meat Vending:

Three (03) arrests were made last week under the operation code-named “No to Illegal Meat Vending,” bringing cumulative arrests to 231.

Operation Firearms Amnesty:

Six (06) firearms were voluntarily surrendered to the police countrywide on 22 September 2022 under the operation code-named “Firearms Amnesty,” bringing the cumulative figures to 509 firearms and 260 rounds of ammunition. President Emmerson Mnangagwa last month granted a presidential amnesty on voluntary surrender of firearms and ammunition as crimes such as armed robberies and other forms of crimes of passion continue to be reported in Zimbabwe. 

Murder in Norton:

Police in Norton arrested Simbabrashe Nhete (31) on Sunday 25 September 2022 in connection with a case of murder in which the victim, Trymore Gent died on 24 September 2022 at Drummonds Farm after being stabbed with a knife.

Theft of electric mast poles in Norton:

On 25 September 2022, Police in Norton arrested Evans Kanjanga (34) and Nathan Chandu (43) for theft of electric mast poles at Railway 26, Norton. The suspects were seen cutting and loading poles onto a Hino Dutro truck at 0120 hours. Police recovered the Hino truck, a shifting spanner, pliers and the poles.

Hit-and-run along Chegutu-Chinhoyi :

The ZRP is investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred at the 70 km peg along Chegutu-Chinhoyi road on Sunday 25 September 2022 at around 0200 hours where a 27-year-old man was hit by an unknown motorist who was driving an unidentified vehicle. The victim sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information on the case to contact any nearest Police Station.
