ZRP Says NRZ Stopped CCC's CDF Meeting, Not Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied reports which suggest that it stopped a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)Community Development Fund (CDF) meeting in Bulawayo saying it was the National Railways of Zimbabwe that blocked the meeting. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said James Sithole (MP Makokoba)’s notification was duly sanctioned by police. Reads the statement dated 11 August 2022:

FALSE POLITICAL STORY ON ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE BY CITE’S REPORTER, SENZENI NCUBE

Reference is made to a story by CITE’s reporter Senzeni Ncube which went viral on social media platforms and online publications on 9th August 2022 titled, “Police Ban Opposition MP CDF Meeting”.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises the public and the media at large that this story is false. James Sithole (MP Makokoba)’s notification was duly sanctioned by the local regulating authority. He was allowed to hold his meeting as advised.

The meeting referred to by Senzeni Ncube was not stopped by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers at all and the Member of Parliament can conclusively attest to this fact. The meeting was stopped by National Railways of Zimbabwe officers as it was taking place in their area of jurisdiction.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police once again implores journalists to verify stories with their sources before rushing to tarnish the image of Police.

Sithole had earlier told CITE that he had been denied to carry out the public consultation meeting at Westgate as scheduled despite the meeting having been cleared by the police. He added:

I was told that the meeting cannot be held because I am a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP hence the meeting is considered political. People have been dispersed.

Sithole said other meetings in the other venues – Thorngrove Hall, Stanley Hall- Makokoba, Brethren in Christ Church-Nguboyenja, and McDonald Hall-Mzilikazi – were also interrupted as police officers were sent to intimidate residents.
