ZRP, Bus Operators Meet Over Christmas Holidays
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), bus operators, and other stakeholders on Thursday held a meeting to strategise on how to reduce road traffic accidents during this festive season.
Bus operators under the banner the Zimbabwe Passenger Transporters Organisation (ZPTO), met with ZRP, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID), and the Harare City Council, among other stakeholders.
Harare Metropolitan provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said there will be a heavy deployment of police officers during the festive period. He said:
We work hand in glove with the transport operators and as ZRP Harare province, we are encouraging them to make sure that their buses are in good condition to make sure they prepare well for this festive season that is around the corner.
We want a festive season that is free of accidents, where there is no congestion, and where we record zero deaths and injuries.

There is going to be a high deployment of police especially in our major cities and highways.
Police officers will be there enforcing and at the same time, we are going to team up with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe to have road safety campaigns.
ZPTO chairman Sam Nanhanga said that as bus operators, they need to educate each other on how to curb the road carnage.
TSCZ director of operations Claudius Muzuva said that they will be conducting road safety campaigns during the festive period. | The Herald
