Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 30 Jan. To 01 February 2022

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 30 JANUARY 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 01 FEBRUARY 2022.

PREAMBLE

The moist and unstable conditions experienced over the country resulted in widespread thunderstorms with notable rainfalls in excess of 50mm): 98mm (Logan Park Harare), 73mm (Karo), 66mm (Buhera), 64mm (Kanyemba), 61mm (Chisengu) and 54mm (Belvedere Harare).

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, MONDAY 31 JANUARY 2022;

In Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, all Mashonaland Provinces and Harare Metropolitan Province mostly cloudy conditions with rain showers are expected; these showers may be thundery in places.

Warm weather should prevail during the day though mild in the morning. It should be mostly sunny and warm in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern areas of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland.

Brief cloudy periods and isolated showers remain probable. It is expected to be cool in the morning, becoming mild in the afternoon.

IMPACTS

  • Thunder and lightning may affect your plans, please plan with the weather in mind.
  • Flooded rivers remain a potential hazard; even if it has not rained heavily in the area, heavy rains may have occurred upstream.
  • Heavy rains may induce localized flash flooding in areas with poor drainage or along rivers.
  • Some dams are filled to capacity; this can cause downstream flooding should the dams overspill.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • When Thunder roars, it is best to be indoors! If outdoor, try and find shelter immediately; do not shelter under trees or in isolated sheds.
  • Avoid crossing flooded rivers and swollen streams whether on foot or in a vehicle.
  • Heavy downpours may reduce visibility and flood dangers become difficult to perceive during heavy rains. Avoid being outdoors during heavy rains.
  • Do not ride at the back of an open truck or drive a tractor during a storm; keep away from metal equipment and pipes, or kitchen areas as these are prone to lightning strikes.

  • Vumba:  Partly cloudy and warm (Temperatures – 16/26)
  • Matopos: Partly cloudy and warm (Temperatures – 18/27)
  • Chimanimani:  Partly cloudy and warm (Temperatures – 17/24)

WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 01 FEBRUARY 2022;

Briefly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated afternoon thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, all Mashonaland Provinces including Harare Metropolitan and the northern areas of Manicaland.
