Slight ground frost is probable in areas such as Matopos, Nyanga and Chipinge.

IMPACTS

• As winter approaches, nighttime conditions tend to be cool especially when skies are clear.
• Ground frost is probable in frost-prone areas.
• Cool overnight conditions may affect the health of people, animals and plants
• Veldt fires tend to be rampant during this period and can destroy vast tracts of land and property as well as pose a threat to human and animal life.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• Please ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm.
• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as
  overhead irrigation of crops
• Keep warm, especially during the night and early morning.
• Construct fireguards that are at least 9 metres wide and free from any debris or combustible matter (anything that can burn).
• Do not burn grass: use it as stock feed through hay-bailing, or for thatching and bedding for poultry.

Clear skies should be predominant countrywide. It should be warm by afternoon over much of the country becoming cool overnight.

Slight ground frost is anticipated in frost-prone areas such as Mukandi, Matopos, Chipinge, Nyanga and Chivhu.
