The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has released a weather report and forecast for the period 10 – 12 June 2022. Pindula News presents the report and forecast below:
PREAMBLE
ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 10 JUNE 2022 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 12 JUNE 2022.
There was a moderate ground frost in areas such as Kezi, Masvingo, Matopos and West Nicholson with clear skies and cold morning conditions over much of the country, except areas along the Zambezi escarpment (namely Hwange, Binga, Kariba, Gokwe, Hurungwe, Makonde, Mbire, Guruve, Muzarabani, Mount Darwin, Rushinga, Uzumba — Maramba — Pfungwe and Mudzi Districts) which had mostly cloudy conditions. Meanwhile, winds are strengthening over the Limpopo valley as a relatively moist south-easterly airflow is being driven in from the Indian Ocean.
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 11 JUNE 2022
Windy, cloudy and cool conditions are expected in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces. Light drizzle is probable in districts such as Chiredzi, Chipinge, Chimanimani, Buhera, Bikita and Zaka. Mostly sunny skies and mild daytime conditions are anticipated in Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Midlands, Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan as well as all Mashonaland Provinces; though cold in the morning with a moderate ground frost in areas around Matopos, Kezi, Gweru, Henderson and Lupane.
IMPACTS
• Wintry conditions both night and day may affect the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being prevalent.
• Ground frost may negatively affect both plants and livestock.
• Nights, when the sky is clear, are actually much colder than those where cloudy conditions persist.
• Light drizzle may affect field crops in the process of drying, countermeasures need to be put in place.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
• Dress appropriately to keep warm especially overnight, and ensure vulnerable members of society are warm as well.
• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops usually at night /early in the morning.

OUTLOOK
Manicaland and parts of Masvingo (Districts such as Gutu, Bikita and Zaka into Masvingo Rural) should be cloudy and cold at first, becoming less cloudy and cool by noon. Clear skies mild by midday conditions are anticipated in all other areas, though cold in the morning and evening.
NB: Moderate ground frost is probable in Henderson, Matopos, Kezi, Lupane, Kadoma, Marondera and Wedza.
