Zimbabwe Weather Report And Forecast: 1 - 3 January 2023

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe has reported that most places of the country received light rain showers on Sunday. In a report and forecast seen by Pindula News, MSD said light showers of rain are expected on Monday. Reads the forecast which is valid until the 3rd of January 2023:

PREAMBLE

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS SUNDAY 01 JANUARY 2023 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 03 JANUARY 2023.

It has been a cloudy first day of 2023 over much of the country, with light rain-showers in most places. The highest measured amounts were 34mm (Harare, Kutsaga), 33mm (Makuti), 29mm (Marirangwe Secondary School) and 26mm (in Gokwe North as well as Harare’s Logan Park). The southern areas were windy and mild with areas along and to the north of the main watershed being warm and more conducive for afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a cloud band is slowly sweeping across the country.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, MONDAY 02 JANUARY 2023

Brief sunny skies are anticipated in Matabeleland South, Masvingo, southern parts of Midlands and Manicaland as well as Bulawayo Metropolitan in the morning. It should become progressively cloudy from the west, with light showers in places. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces. Cloudy and warm by day, mild early morning and towards evening.

IMPACTS

• Lightning strikes remain a threat to humans and livestock, as well as infrastructure.

• Localized heavy rains may reduce visibility in a few areas, more so at night.

• Mosquitoes proliferate during this season.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• Avoid crossing flooded rivers or swollen streams where water is above your ankles, just a 30 cm depth of flowing water can sweep away large vehicles. Wait for the water to subside before attempting to cross.

• When thunder roars, go indoors. Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes after the thunderstorms have ended. These are precautionary measures to reduce the chances of being struck by lightning.

• Avoid contact with water or metal objects including farming equipment when lightning is visible, even from a distance.

• Insure crops against adverse weather such as hailstorms and flash flood damage

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY 03 JANUARY 2023

Brief cloudy periods are anticipated in Matabeleland South, Masvingo, southern parts of Midlands and Manicaland as well as Bulawayo Metropolitan. It should be mild at first, becoming warm by afternoon with isolated light showers. Mostly cloudy conditions are expected in Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces with isolated thunderstorms. Warm by day and mild towards evening.
