The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has released a weather report and forecast for the period 06 – 08 June 2022. Pindula News presents the report and forecast below:
PREAMBLE
ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON MONDAY 06 JUNE 2022 VALID UNTIL WEDNESDAY 08 JUNE 2022.
It was windy over much of the country as clouds were being driven into the southern parts of the country this morning. These resulted in light drizzle in parts of Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces. The wind factor also suppressed the occurrence of ground frost countrywide.
FORECASTS FOR TOMORROW, TUESDAY 07 JUNE 2022
Manicaland, and Mashonaland East Provinces should be mostly cloudy and cold in the morning with a slight drizzle in places becoming cool by midday Cold, cloudy and drizzly morning hours are expected in Masvingo, southern parts of the Midlands into Matabeleland South, becoming less cloudy and cool by afternoon. Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, northern districts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland West and Central provinces are expected to be mostly clear and cold in the morning with a gentle breeze. It should be cool in the afternoon.
IMPACTS
• Wintry conditions both night and day may affect the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being prevalent.
• Nights, when the sky is clear, are actually much colder than those where cloudy conditions persist.
• Veldfires tend to be uncontrollable during windy periods and can destroy vast tracts of land and property as well as pose a threat to human and animal life.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
• Dress appropriately to keep warm especially overnight, and ensure vulnerable members of society are warm as well.
• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops usually at night /early in the morning.
• Some may opt to use braziers to keep warm; however, this should be done in well-ventilated areas/rooms as it leads to carbon monoxide poisoning.
