The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has released a weather report and forecast for the period 29 – 31 May 2022. Pindula News presents the report and forecast below:
PREAMBLE
ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 29 MAY 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 31 MAY 2022.
There were brief cloudy periods and light drizzle in parts of Manicaland and Mashonaland East Provinces this morning; however, this did not impede the occurrence of ground frost, as Nyanga and Marondera had slight and moderate ground frost respectively. Blue skies and cold conditions were prevalent in all other areas and it quickly became mild by midday. Meanwhile, winds are slowly strengthening over the southeast coast of Southern Africa.
FORECASTS FOR TOMORROW, MONDAY 30 MAY 2022
Clear blue skies and cold morning conditions are expected over much of the country with a slight ground frost in areas such as Chivhu, Gweru, Henderson, Kadoma, Marondera, Masvingo, Nyanga, Rusape and West Nicholson. It should be mild by the afternoon becoming windy and cold towards the evening with clouds drifting into the country through Beitbridge, Chiredzi and Chipinge Districts. This is anticipated to culminate in overnight rain and drizzle in provinces such as Masvingo, Manicaland and Matabeleland South into the southern parts of the Midlands.
IMPACTS
• Ground frost may affect some crops and even poultry, especially on Monday morning. • Temperature fluctuations between day and night, coupled with the wind factor may affect the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being common.
• Nights, when the sky is cloudy, are much warmer than those with clear night skies.
• Rain and drizzle may affect outdoor activities, especially on Monday evening.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops usually at night /early in the morning.
• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
• Dress appropriately to keep warm especially overnight, and ensure vulnerable members of society are warm as well.
• Outdoor activities should be planned with the weather in mind.

On Tuesday morning, it should be mostly cloudy, windy and cold in Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces with light drizzle in places; becoming less cloudy but cool as the day progresses. Scattered clouds are anticipated in Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands as well as Mashonaland East with mild daytime conditions which will tend towards cold overnight. Matabeleland North, northern districts of Midlands, Mashonaland West and Central should be mostly sunny and warm by day, becoming cool towards evening.
