Zimbabwe Offers Namibia Land To Construct Liberation Monument

Zimbabwe has offered Namibia one acre of land in its Pan-African Memorial Park and Museum of African Liberation Project in Liberation City, Harare.

The land is for the construction of an outdoor monument to commemorate Namibia’s emancipation from the South African apartheid government.

This was revealed by ZANU PF secretary for external relations Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, when he delivered a special message from President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Namibia’s president, Hage Geingob at State House in Windhoek on Thursday. He said:

I am pleased to say, Your Excellency, that the government of Zimbabwe is offering 4 400 square metres of space for Namibia to erect a monument commemorating Namibia’s independence from South Africa’s apartheid government. The memorial park will have a number of monuments.

We will have a world-class shopping mall within the complex, 20 hectares of an animal park, 20 hectares of an amusement park, and a heritage village in the memorial park.

On his part, Geingob hailed the project, saying it was good that Africans are telling their own stories. He said:

Sounds good. People want us to forget about our history. They are working hard trying to talk that we are backward, and we are not moving forward.

But let us not be discouraged; let’s go ahead and tell our glorious history.

I welcome it. It is a very good idea – a greeting to my brother – let’s record our history.

That’s what the story is all about. We must be proud to tell our history.

Zimbabwe’s started the construction of the Museum of African Liberation early this year.

The structure is a monument that is dedicated to all fallen heroes of Africa’s liberation wars and is meant to document wars fought in Africa in its quest for self-governance. | New Era

The 21st century is the digital age. Invest that money in biotechnology. Statues of dead witches & wizards & miscreants who used to rape village girls during Pungwes will not develop Zimbabwe.

is it not wise to build a hall of Fame where all liberation movements are documented as wall murmovements each taking 1 acre of space howres for visitors to view and read. instead of a physical monument which takes an acre of space. consider the number of liberation movements each taking n acre ?
