ZEC Removes Over 32 000 Dead People From The Voters' Roll

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has removed over 32 010 deceased persons from the voter’s roll.

The electoral body says those listed died between December 2017 and January 31 this year.

The move is in accordance with Section 33(1) of the Electoral Act which says:

If a voter registration officer has reason to believe that a voter whose name is registered on a voters’ roll has become disqualified for registration as a voter, or is dead, the voter registration officer shall remove his or her name therefrom.

ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana recently said those who have been mistakenly added to the list must approach ZEC within seven days. Said Silaigwana in General Notice 1197 of 2022, carried in the Government Gazette on May 31:

It is hereby notified, in terms of Section 33(4) read with Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], that voter registration officers have reason to believe that the persons whose names are listed in the First Schedule, and who were registered as voters for the constituencies, wards and polling stations listed therein have died.

The names of those persons will be removed from the voters’ roll unless notice of appeal is given to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

In November 2021, ZEC removed “22 656 dead people” from the voters’ roll.

The development comes ahead of the harmonised elections pencilled for 2023.

You need to use burial order for the dead coz most people who died have no death certificates, the reason being the demands at your offices...

Thank you Mr. Pindula. Let me correct you on a few things:-
1. 'Editorial' is a verb describing something. Normally 'editorials' refer to opinions of the editor or editorial team(s). Therefore you by rights should refer yourself as Pindula Editor, because editorial is the type subject matter, not the writer.
2. I have a Constitutional Right referred to as Freedom of Speech. It's a pity that given your attachment to ZANU my Freedom after Speech is not always guaranteed.
3. If you really are part of Pindula editorial team, you shoul have just deleted my comments, by which action I would have concluded that Pindula is censorious and intolerant to Freedom of Association, which again is my Constitutional Right.
4. Talking of Freedom of Association, if my interventions are anathema to you sir, you are free to ignore them and not read them.
5. You sir are also free to Dissociate from Pindula if comments offend you and your health.
