ZANU PF Miscalculated In Calling For By-elections - David Coltart

David Coltart, a senior official in the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has said the ruling ZANU PF miscalculated in calling for by-elections scheduled for 26 March.

He said the ruling party thought it had destroyed the opposition. Said the former Education minister:

ZANU PF has seriously miscalculated in calling by elections. They thought that they had eliminated the real opposition & could manipulate the result. The combination of the @CCCZimbabwe ‘s remarkable surge & @PacheduZW ‘s expose of @ZECzim ‘s fraud has ruined their nefarious plans.

The by-elections slated for 26 March are meant to fill vacant council and Parliamentary seats, most of which, came vacant after opposition MDC-T led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora recalled members of councillors and legislators who were pro-Nelson Chamisa.

Mwonzora also claimed ownership of the MDC name and all its variables, including the MDC Alliance which the Nelson Chamisa-led party was using.

The Chamisa-led outfit argued that Mwonzora was being used by ZANU pf to destroy the opposition in the country. They then formed the CCC which has been growing at a rate that has shocked some analysts.

The party has so far hosted a couple of rallies that were highly attended and some analysts say the huge attendances have shaken the ruling ZANU PF.

Meanwhile, Team Pachedu, a civil society group, picked some anomalies in the voters’ roll which it says were deliberate efforts by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to rig the upcoming elections.

ZEC has been denying the allegations but “rectified them secretly,” according to Team Pachedu.
