Zambia's Leadership Won't Hire Private Jets To Go Address 4 People Overseas - Kalimbwe

Joseph Kalimbwe, the Spokesperson of Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), who is also a former African Union (AU) Youth President (2014) has suggested that millions used by African leaders to travel to the Climate Change Conference (COP26) could be injected into the education sector.

Kalimbwe on Wednesday suggested that the benefit of travelling to Glasgow might not have produced results comparable to the cost of travelling as many leaders addressed empty auditoriums. He said Wednesday:

In Africa, we must understand that buying/hiring private jets is not a sign of economic success. We measure economic success by how many people can easily find jobs, how many can afford a decent living. These are the fundamentals of a nation’s economic success – not private jets!

We can use $1 Million to fund public school projects & get kids back into school – to jumpstart their future. Theirs is a future we must protect. Our leadership will not burn private jet fuel from Lusaka to go address 4 people overseas when we can save money & fly commercial!!

Some observers view Kalimbwe’s statement as a direct jab at President Emmerson Mnangagwa who reportedly hired a private jet from Azerbaijan, a former Soviet Republic, for an average of US$415 000 for a one-way trip from Harare to Glasgow.

The estimate suggests Mnangagwa is spending close to USS$1 million on travel alone.

Mnangagwa Tuesday addressed an almost empty auditorium, as did all the leaders who delivered their addresses during the 9 am to 1 pm slot.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT NOT ONLY OUR PRESIDENT ED MNANGAGWA ADDRESSED AN ALMOST EMPTY AUDITORIUM. MANY MORE ESPECIALLY AFRICAN LEADERS ADDRESSED ALMOST EMPTY AUDITORIUM.

MR JOSEPH KALIMBE, UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPOKESPERSON BLAMED AFRICAN LEADERS FOR WASTING RESOURCES HIRING EXPENSIVE AIRBUSES TO TAKE THEM TO ADDRESS VERY FEW COP 26 DELEGATES.

MR JOSEPH KALIMBE MUST EXCUSE OUR ED BECAUSE HE HAD ADDITIONAL COMMITMENTS, THOSE OF ENGAGEMENT, REENGAGEMENT AND DISENGAGEMENT. PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA HAD BEEN OFFERED A CHANCE TO GO TO BRITIAN TO ENGAGE WITH THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, BORIS JOHNSON.

ANY LEADER WOULD NOT HAVE MISSED THIS CHANCE OF VISING ENGLAND AFTER HAVING BEEN ISOLATED FOR 25 GOOD YEARS. SOCIAL MEDIA TELLS US THAT PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA ENGAGED AND REENGAGED WITH BORIS JOHNSON, THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, THE EUROPEAN UNION BOSS AND THE COMMONWEALTH BOSS.

FROM THE STATEMENTS WHICH WERE ATTRIBUTED TO PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA WHILE HE WAS STILL IN ZIMBABWE IT SHOWED THAT HE WAS REALLY EXCITED TO MEET THESE PEOPLE. BUT AFTER MEETING THESE PEOPLE, THE PRESIDENT DID NOT EXUDE THE SAME LEVEL OF EXCITEMENT HE HAD BEFORE HE ENGAGED THEM.

IT CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE FACT THAT IN THE PROCESS OF ENGAGEMENT AND REENGAGEMENT SOME OR ALL OF THEM REMINDED HIM TO FIRST OF ALL PRACTISE THE RULE OF LAW AND IMPLEMENT ELECTORAL AND POLITICAL REFORMS. COULD THESE WORLD LEADERS HAVE FORGOTTEN TO REMIND HIM TO NIP CORRUPTION IN THE BUD, I WONDER ?

THE ABOVE REMINDERS COULD HAVE DUMPED ED'S SPIRITS BECAUSE HE HAD TOLD INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THAT HE WAS IMPLEMENTING REFORMS YET ON THE GROUND HE IS AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION WITH THE AID OF SELLOUT OPPOSITION PARTIES TO CONCRETISE HIS POSITION IN 2023 HARMONISED ELECTIONS BY MAKING SURE HE KEEPS THE PRESENT CHIEF JUSTICE IN THE SYSTEM.

YOURS TRULY
