Women’s AFCON Hockey Semifinals: Zimbabwe Lose To Ghana In Last Seconds

Zimbabwe Ladies Hockey team lost 2-1 to Ghana in a Women’s AFCON hockey semifinals match played Friday night in Accra, Ghana.

The hosts scored the winner in the last seconds of the game to frustrate the Southern African country that had been resilient till the last seconds.

Zimbabwe were the first to score but Ghana responded almost immediately.

Ghana, who are ranked 2nd in Africa, behind South Africa, were awarded a penalty corner in last seconds of the game and converted their opportunity. Commenting on the development, Zimhockey said:

Zimbabwe Ladies gave their utmost until the last seconds of the Game… We are very proud of the ladies achievement at the ACN.

Zimbabwe Ladies hockey team will now play Kenya in the bronze medal match.

They were playing in their first semi-final game since 1998.

Zimbabwe qualified for this year’s semi-finals at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after drawing 1-1 with Namibia Thursday.
