Woman Claims She was Given Ammunition By A Prophet As A Lucky Charm

A South African-bound Zimbabwean woman was intercepted at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport while trying to smuggle ammunition to the neighbouring country on Friday.

The suspect, identified as Precious Maunganidze aged 39, was arrested by airport authorities as she went through departure formalities.

Maunganidze told airport security that a South African-based self-styled prophet had “gifted” her the pistol as a lucky charm.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident. He said:

On August 19, 2022, police in Harare arrested Precious Maunganidze (39) at RGMI Airport for trying to smuggle ammunition to South Africa.

The ammunition was stashed inside a plastic bottle with oil, a razor blade and a magnet.

The suspect claimed that she was given the ammunition by a prophet based in South Africa as a lucky charm.

In an unrelated incident, Asst Comm Nyathi said on Saturday, 20 August, police in Harare arrested five security guards in connection with a case of murder in Budiriro.

The suspects allegedly took turns to assault Leon Thomas Jenje (37) using an electric cable, fists and a hoe.

The incident occurred at Budiriro 3 car Park around 1 AM on Saturday. The guards accused Jenje of being a thief.

Asst Comm Nyathi said investigations are underway.
