Woman (33) Scalds Her Newborn Baby Boy, Buries Body In Shallow Pit

Police in Nkayi have arrested a 33-year-old woman for allegedly killing her newborn baby boy and burying the body in a shallow grave at her homestead.

In a statement posted on their Twitter page, police said Silibaziso Mpofu of Dobhani Village, Gwelutshena, gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on 6 December and decided to end the infant’s life.

Police said Mpofu killed the baby by pouring boiled water on its stomach and then buried the corpse in a shallow pit. Police said:

Police in Nkayi arrested Silibaziso Mpofu (33) for a case of infanticide which occurred at Dobhani Village, Gwelutshena on 06/12/21.

The suspect gave birth to a baby boy and killed the infant by pouring boiled water onto the infant’s stomach.

She then dug a shallow pit in her yard and buried the body.

In an unrelated incident, police in Bikita arrested Amon Chikomba Sigauke (34) for cultivating dagga.

Sigauke allegedly had a secret garden at Nechikova Village, Buhera where 400 mbanje plants with an approximate height of 1.3 metres were recovered.
