The winners and runners up of each group will automatically qualify for the finals in June next year. AFCON 2023 hosts Ivory Coast will participate in the qualifiers, but as the hosts of the tournament, are guaranteed a spot in the finals. Zimbabwe and Kenya, who are both banned from international football, were drawn for the qualifiers. However, the two nations will only participate in the competition if they meet FIFA’s demands two weeks before the games begin. Should the two countries fail to have the suspensions lifted, the groups they are placed in will shrink from four nations to three. However, the top two finishers will still qualify for the finals.
