*CCC Abandons Plan To Hold Car Rally But Insists On Holding Marondera Star Rally*

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has decided against conducting a mini car rally in Marondera on Saturday ahead of its Star Rally on the same day to be addressed by the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa.

On 8 March, CCC informed ZRP in Marondera of its plans to hold a district campaign star rally on 12 March at Rudhaka Open Grounds from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Then on 9 March 2022, the Officer Commanding Marondera District, P Mtetwa, in a letter addressed to CCC’s Caston Matewu, advised the opposition party cannot go ahead with the rally.

Mtetwa said CCC’s notification to hold a car rally “is invalid as it does not fully comply with the requirements of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11:23.”

In response, CCC, through their lawyers, Shava Law Chambers, wrote to police in Marondera advising that they have amended their notification of 8 March 2022 to reflect their new position, of not holding the car rally to comply with MOPA. Part of the letter reads:

_Our clients have taken note of your concerns. We have been instructed to advise that our clients are doing away with the mini car rally aspect, to the extent that it is the only reason upon which you have stopped their intended rally._

_In light of the above, our clients’ notification of 08 March 2022 is accordingly amended_

_We are instructed to advise that if there are any outstanding issues, our clients are amenable to an urgent consultative meeting to have such issues resolved in terms of section 8 of MOPA._
