Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga says it’s a matter of time before ZANU PF crushes the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to prevent the opposition party from winning elections and attaining control of the State.

Addressing ZANU PF supporters at a campaign rally in Kwekwe at Mbizo Stadium on Saturday, Chiwenga threatened to crush CCC like lice, likening the ruling party to the Biblical Goliath.

Ironically, the Biblical Goliath was felled by a young and inexperienced David with one stone and had his head cut off. Said Chiwenga:

_You heard Blessing Chebundo speaking here, that people should not oppose for the sake of opposing._

_You can’t oppose every time, even the best thing can’t be opposed, you opposing as who, we are as big as Goliath, we will see him when time is ripe._

Chebundo is the former MDC Kwekwe Central legislator who defected to ZANU PF last year and has been paraded at the ruling party’s events ever since.

Speaking after Chiwenga’s threats to the opposition, President Emmerson Mnangagwa urged ZANU PF supporters to refrain from violence. He said:

_It is undemocratic to be violent against democracy. The country is built by its owners._

_It is, therefore, important for you in the coming by-elections to vote for the ZANU PF candidates because these are the owners of the country._

_If you vote for the opposition they won’t be able to develop this country because they are not the owners._

Thousands of people attended the ZANU PF rally, with ZUPCO busses used to transport supporters from different districts in Midlands Province, Mnangagwa’s home province.

Top ZANU PF leaders arrived at the packed Mbizo Stadium in brand new SUVs of all makes, with Toyota Landcruciers topping the list, followed by BMW’s and Isuzu twin cabs.

The poor people were crammed in ZUPCO and school buses like sardines, with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celcius.
