They are demanding a salary hike to match the rate of inflation and cushion them against the harsh economic environment. Government has however made it clear there would be no return to US dollar salaries and that all expenditure must be tied to revenue, with no borrowing for recurrent expenditure. In a statement after the meeting, the civil service Apex Council confirmed that there was a stalemate and said it would now consult its members on the way forward. The statement read in part: > The workers’ side flatly rejected the offer for falling short of addressing the incapacitation of civil servants. > However, the workers’ side asked for an adjournment to tomorrow for feedback to its full council and its constituency on the way forward (concerning) the said offer and expects to meet the government this week for workers’ position. Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretary Jonathan Wutawunashe also confirmed the adjournment of the NJNC meeting. He said: > The meeting has ended without an agreement as yet, but we requested that they should reconnect soon, and we expect talks to resume later this week. > As is normal, the negotiating parties might need to consult with members and I think that is the reason they have asked to convene it on a later date before finalising on the proposal put on the table by both parties *More: NewsDay, The Herald* _If you found this article useful_ *Please support Pindula by forwarding to friends and groups*
