Matuke told the Daily News on Friday that members were unnecessarily labelling each other G40 members in a bid to be more appealing in the party’s upcoming elections which are part of the ongoing restructuring exercise. What is worrying is that people are labelling each other G40 without concrete evidence. > It’s an election, and so if someone realises that his or her competitor can win, he or she will label him or her a G40 member. > People are throwing all sorts of accusations against each other without evidence. > As the security department, our job is to vet candidates, and I can tell you that people are just making unnecessary accusations against each other. The whole process is now being conducted by the commissariat department, but we did our job diligently. The G40 cabal is a ZANU PF faction that was opposed to the ascendancy of then Vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa to power. The faction’s kingpins included exiled Jonathan Moyo, Patrick Zhuwao, Saviour Kasukuwere and Walter Mzembi who skipped the country borders during the military-assisted transition of 2017 which propelled Mnangagwa to power. They feared retribution from Mnangagwa whom they had persecuted at every chance and especially in 2017 when the succession battle, to find the heir to then-president the late Robert Mugabe reached its climax.
