The global Coronavirus death toll has surpassed 300,000 (Thursday, 14 May).

US deaths went past 85,000 on the same day, accounting for nearly 30% of the COVID-19 fatalities globally.

Renowned US economist, Steve Hankie said on Thursday that sources at John Hopkins had told him the number of deaths had surpassed 300,000:

The World Health Organization’s emergencies director has meanwhile said that the virus may never go away. The WHO director, Mike Ryan, said that the world should prepare for the possibility that a vaccine for the disease may not be found.

Said Ryan:

_“It is important to put this on the table: This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities, and this virus may never go away. I think it is important we are realistic and I don’t think anyone can predict when this disease will disappear. I think there are no promises in this and there are no dates. This disease may settle into a long problem, or it may not be.”_
