*Econet Dismisses Message Claiming That Internet Will Be Down Tomorrow - Report*

A message has been circulating on social media claiming that Econet Zimbabwe will be upgrading its internet service on Friday, 16 August 2019. The message read:

> Kindly note that Econet Internet Service will be down from 6 am Fri 16/8/19 and also 3 pm Fri 16/8/19 for a system upgrade. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.

The message is FAKE, according to prominent journalist Hopewell Chi’ono. Writing on Twitter, he said:

> Disregard the FAKE Econet message purporting to inform subscribers that they will be suspending internet services tomorrow.

> I have spoken to an Econet executive, and he confirmed to me that it is FAKE. It is a pathetic attempt to confuse citizens about tomorrow’s People’s March!
