The General Secretary of the African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Kwasi Adu-Amankwah was on Tuesday morning dragged from his hotel room in Harare by authorities soon after his arrival.

Adu-Amankwah was on a visit to meet the leaders of local labour body, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU). He is set to be deported.

This was revealed by the ZCTU in a statement:

_Secretary-General Kwasi Adu Amankwa faces deportation, detained at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare. He was dragged from a local hotel and taken back to the airport soon after arriving early this morning. He was scheduled to meet ZCTU._

The government of Zimbabwe has shown evident distaste towards international labour leaders. A few years back, the then leader of the Confederation of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Zwelinzima Vavi was deported soon after arriving from South Africa.
