*Govt Sets Aside $400 000 For Cloud Seeding* *Follow Pindula on WhatsApp for daily new updates* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va84dngJP21B2nWeyM3v?bq The government has set aside $400 000 for cloud seeding for the 2018/19 rain season. This follows a report by meteorologists that the ongoing season will receive normal to below normal rainfall. The low rainfall has been attributed to the El Nino weather phenomenon. El Nino( Spanish for ‘Male Child’) is associated with above-average warming of sea surface temperatures of the Equatorial Pacific Ocean and is usually associated with reduced rainfall activity over Sub-Saharan Africa. Cloud seeding is done in order to induce rainfall but is carried out only when there are conducive atmospheric conditions. The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) official, James Ngoma, had this to say > The government unveiled a budgetary allocation for cloud seeding at the beginning of 2018, as standard in every budget year. The department has contractually acquired two aircraft — one in Harare and the other one in Bulawayo — to be on standby, ready to operationalise the programme as soon as atmospheric conditions become conducive… Cloud seeding on average starts late November or December; it is variable as the start of the rainfall season is variable from one (season) to the other.
