Mines minister Walter Chidhakwa has been accused of lying concerning the legal issues surrounding Government’s takeover of diamond mines in Chiadzwa.  Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Kimberly Process Intercessional meeting in Perth, Australia, Chidhakwa said that the legal issues surrounding Government’s takeover of diamond mines had been completed.

This is however untrue as Government is still embroiled in a legal battle with Grandwell Holdings which has a 50% stake in Mbada Diamonds. Grandwell appeared at the High Court a week ago accusing the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) of grabbing its property and stealing its diamond ore. The High Court gave ZCDC an ultimatum to comply with a court order barring it from looting the diamond ore.
