More than 170 000 Zimbabweans are holders of the special permits which give them legal protection to live, work and study in South Africa. However, the dispensation ends on 30 June 2023 and tens of thousands of ZEP holders are now facing an uncertain future. South Africa allowed ZEP holders with critical skills to apply for visas to remain in the country. The hearing in the case is expected to take place virtually until Friday.
