An unidentified man died after he was hit by a train near Mbokodo Abattoir in Bulawayo on Sunday morning as he was walking on the railway line.

The victim is said to be between 30 and 36 years old.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the incident. He said:

> Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of sudden death where an unknown man was run over by a train on 12 June 2022.

> The incident occurred near Mbokodo Abattoir at around 2:30 AM.

It is alleged that the now-deceased was strolling along the railway line and the engine man tried to warn him as he was approaching.

The man, however, ignored the warnings and was hit by the train and died on the spot.

The train only managed to stop after hitting him and police attended the scene.

Insp Ncube implored members of the public to consider their safety before crossing the railway line.

He also appealed to the public to consult their relatives or seek professional help if they have issues that they are facing rather than for people to take their own lives. Said Insp Ncube:

> We appeal to the members of the public not to cross the railway line before checking it.

> This has been part of the many suicidal cases which we are experiencing in Bulawayo.

> We advise people to seek counselling from relatives or professionals rather than taking their own lives.
