The City of Harare has relocated driving schools from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square to Rotten Row Commuter Omnibus holding terminus.

This comes after the Harare Driving Schools Association (HDSA) wrote to the local authority requesting temporary use of the Rotten Row facility.

Most driving schools were operating without training grounds, with Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square and Coca-Cola Grounds among some of the spaces that they have been operating from.

However, both settings do not have ablution facilities or running water, yet Harare City Council was charging them ranking fees.

HCC spokesperson, Michael Chideme, on Monday told H-Metro that the relocation of driving schools to Rotten Row Commuter Omnibus holding terminus is a temporary measure.

HDSA chairperson, Nelson Mbedzi, said they would be happy if the local authority allows them to operate from the facility permanently. Said Mbedzi:

> We cannot say it’s a permanent situation though. We had earlier applied for the temporary use of the place before this move.

> As HDSA, we would be happy if Council gives us that place to operate from permanently as it has all facilities.

This year, the City of Harare increased ranking fees, for cars, from $14 000 to $18 000 per month, while fees for trucks were raised from $18 000 to $22 000.
