*Parliamentarians Descend On Victoria Falls For Pre-budget Seminar | FULL TEXT* *Follow Pindula on WhatsApp for daily new updates* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va84dngJP21B2nWeyM3v?wc Full statement by the Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda on the Pre-Budget Seminar being held in Victoria Falls. > Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. > I am happy to update the nation with regards to preparations for the Pre-Budget Seminar which is pencilled for Victoria Falls commencing 22nd to 26 October 2021. > Preparations are at an advanced stage and final modalities are being put in place for the successful hosting of the Seminar. > A Pre-Budget Seminar is an event carried out yearly by Parliament encapsulating the three major roles of oversight, legislative and representation. > The Seminar also provides a platform for MPs to interact with the Executive and present findings from the Budget Consultations conducted across the country. > As part of citizen participation in the budget formulation process, earlier on in the month, Parliament of Zimbabwe through the Portfolio Committee on Budget. > Finance and Economic Development and the Expanded Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Committee conducted pre-Budget consultations around the country soliciting for citizens’ expectations and priority areas for the upcoming 2022 Budget. The constitution compels Parliament to consult the general public on such matters. > We remain thankful to the general public for their participation and contribution to this budget consultation exercise. > The Pre-Budget Seminar will be addressed by the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Advocate Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda. > The conference will be held under the theme: “Reinforcing Sustainable Recovery and Resilience.” > Cognisant of the existence of the COVID-19 pandemic amongst us, the Seminar will be held under strict COVID-19 protocols. Masks, sanitisers have been procured, whilst social distancing will be observed. > All MPs, Parliament staff, members of the Media will be screened for the virus prior to the event. Valid COVID-19 free certificates will be produced for one to access the venues. > Meanwhile, may I take this opportunity to encourage the citizens to be alive to the fact that COVID-19 is real and we are not yet out of the woods, we urge every eligible member of society to get vaccinated for the country to achieve herd immunity. > Travel arrangements for Members of Parliament are as follows: All members from Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and Manicaland will fly to Victoria Falls on the morning of Friday, 22 October. > Members of Parliament from Masvingo. Midlands, Bulawayo.
