Mahere told NewsDay: > One thing that I can assure everybody is that the MDC Alliance is the party for the people and goes back to the people who will make decisions. I can assure you that we are building something new, something fresh and that question will ultimately be answered by the citizens themselves. > We never make elite decisions, and what I can assure you is that the people know their leaders. We can call the MDC Alliance the Anything Party, Peace Party or whatever it is, but people know who we are, and there is no confusion in the minds of the people on who the legitimate opposition is. All I can say is watch this space and that question will soon be answered. She added that her party was pushing for electoral reforms to be implemented before the elections. Mahere said freedom of association, assembly and holding rallies freely were some of the key reforms necessary. Mahere added that there was a need to demilitarise Zec’s secretariat, make it independent, align the Electoral Act to the Constitution, and implement the Constitution. She also said MDC Alliance was pushing for the de-politicisation of traditional leaders, and food aid to make the electoral playing field fair.
