Zuma has since Wednesday night been at the Estcourt Correctional Centre located around 180 kilometres northwest of Durban. The Estcourt Correctional Centre is a medium-security prison that houses both youth and adult prisoners. The prison was Built in 1966, was fully refurbished and re-opened in 2019 with state-of-the-art facilities. It has a capacity to hold 512 inmates and a training centre to provide offenders with marketable skills they are expected to use after their release. At the prison, inmates have access to television and they are allowed to use public phones. There have been concerns that Zuma will be given preferential treatment but Justice Minister Ronald Lamola allayed the fears saying the former president has undergone standard medical checks and will spend the next 14 days in isolation in line with COVID-19 regulations.
