*Overwhelmed Clinic Turns Away COVID-19 Vaccine-Seeking Residents* *Follow Pindula on WhatsApp for daily new updates* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va84dngJP21B2nWeyM3v?za The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) has reported that some residents who were seeking COVID-19 vaccinations were turned away by health personnel at Mabvuku Satellite Clinic who said they were overwhelmed. The association reports that a group of more than 30 residents had come to get their second dose of Sinopharm vaccine with some coming as far as Eastview to get vaccinated. ---------- itel A70 256GB $99USD WhatsApp: https://wa.me/+263715068543 Calls: 0772464000 ---------- An unnamed man who was part of the group that was turned away said: > _We were told by a nurse that they are short-staffed because the responsible nurse for vaccination had no bus fare to come to work and we can come tomorrow._ Another senior citizen lamented that she had to walk more than 5 kilometres only to be told to go back home. Said the devastated old lady: > _I stay in East view l woke up around 4 am to come to the Council clinic to access my second dose only to be told there are no nurses this is unacceptable._ Scores of health caregivers deserted Harare City Council last year citing potential exposure to the coronavirus and poor remuneration. According to the City of Harare Health Department, the city has two hundred and forty-two nurse vacancies after the former employees resigned en masse. The development comes when Zimbabwe is targeting to vaccinate sixty per cent of the total population to achieve herd immunity. CHRA calls on the local authority to improve the working conditions of health personnel and the government to provide health grants to the local authority in order to improve health services.
