Harare Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC), Mr Tafadzwa Muguti Monday assured the public that demolitions of all structures along road servitudes will resume after thirty days.

His remarks come at a time when the demolitions were blocked by a court interdict in favour of Chitungwiza Residents Trust that was issued by the High Court.

Chitungwiza residents approached courts after Chitungwiza Town Council had on 2 June given informal businesses a 72-hour ultimatum to remove their wares from roadsides.

Harare City Council (HCC) had started demolishing informal business structures erected along roadsides on 7 June.

The demolitions followed an ultimatum which Muguti had issued on the 3rd of this June.

Speaking on a Star FM Radio Program, Muriro on Monday, Muguti said:

> _An interdict is not a judgement to stop us from enforcing the law and in this case they (Chitrest) were mischievous in that they used the Regional Town Planning Act._

> _We are going to wait for 30 days and we are resuming._

Muguti said the demolitions were in line with the provisions of the Roads Act and paving way for the government’s roads rehabilitation programme.

Muguti, however, failed to name a street or road which the government is failing to rehabilitate because of illegal structures.

One of the residents who participated in the program questioned why the government has money to construct new roads when it is failing to fix the potholes which are scattered on all roads.

Meanwhile, the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) is calling on the local authorities and the central government of Zimbabwe to embrace constitutionalism and respect human rights when enforcing the law.
