Start Fund UK was part of a consortium made of 42 Non-Governmental Organisations which sought to strengthen the humanitarian aid system. The emergency Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) programme reportedly started on 5 July and US$193 878 has been set aside towards mitigation of the crisis. The project is concentrating on Luveve, Mpopoma, Iminyela and Old Pumula high-density suburbs. The project according to the publication will see: > 12 by 5 000 litres reserve water storage tanks being installted, 1 000-litre water kiosks in the communities being established, 110 000 litres of water through bowsers being delivered every five days, procurement and distribution of disinfectants and cleaning agents and hygiene awareness campaigns among others. Other NGOs like Care International Zimbabwe, DanChurchAid and Plan International also contributed to the program.
