He made the remarks in an interview with The Herald’s Deputy Editor Ranga Mataire recently during which he discussed how Covid-19 has affected the country’s re-engagement efforts. ---------- itel A70 256GB $99USD WhatsApp: https://wa.me/+263715068543 Calls: 0772464000 ---------- Asked to outline how far Zimbabwe had gone in rejoining the Commonwealth, the former army boss said: > First, let me tell you that the process of rejoining the Commonwealth was and is for the interest of Zimbabweans to benefit, but not to satisfy certain capitals. As a result of that, we indicated that we wanted to rejoin. So there is a whole process of rejoining that we have had to follow. We have done all the processes and as far as we are concerned, we have even managed to invite the Commonwealth Election Observer Mission. Further asked on whether he was positive that post-COVID-19 might finally be readmitted into the organisation, the Minister was evasive adding that Zimbabwe is entitled to be in Commonwealth. Zimbabwe pulled out of the Commonwealth in 2003 after the organisation failed to lift a suspension it had imposed on the country following the 2002 presidential election which was marred by politically motivated violence.
