World-renowned philanthropist Bill Gates has criticised the decision by the United States of America leader, President Donald Trump to suspend funding the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Gates asserted that Trump’s move is dangerous, coming at a time when WHO is working to slow the spread of COVID-19, a global pandemic caused by the new coronavirus. Gates posted on Twitter:

> Halting funding for the World Health Organization during a world health crisis is as dangerous as it sounds. Their work is slowing the spread of COVID-19 and if that work is stopped no other organization can replace them. The world needs WHO now more than ever.

On Tuesday Trump decided to cut US funding to the WHO after accusing the international body of “severely mismanaging and covering up” the threat posed by the coronavirus.

Trump said WHO had “defended the actions of the Chinese government, even praising its so-called transparency”.
