20 miners are trapped underground after a shaft at Globe and Phoenix Mine in Kwekwe collapsed, ZBC News reports. 2 people have already been confirmed dead. The Kwekwe Civil Protection Unit confirmed the incident and said official rescue operations were yet to begin.

According to the publication, the miners were conducting illegal mining activities after EMA stopped official operations at the mine in 2007.

Fellow illegal miners barred people from taking photos. One of them reportedly said:

> We don’t want pictures here those who have came out of the shafts please go to your homes, we have stopped activities here can everyone leave the place.
