Business owners operating along Solomon Mujuru Drive (formerly Kirkman Road), are crying foul over the demolition of their structures by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and municipal police officers, saying they were not informed of the Operation before it was carried out.

Chairman of the Kirkman Traders Association Fidelis Magava said Harare City Council did not serve them with eviction notices before the demolitions. Said Magava:

> When we started these projects, we paid rates to the council and we agreed to pay $300 every month to operate our businesses here.

> Council then told us that people were operating under electricity lines and they needed to be removed. Today (yesterday) we are shocked to see a front-end loader coming to destroy our businesses.

> But if the clean-up is meant to create a safe environment for us, we have no problem with it. What worries us is that we have lost our property and the council did not give us any notice so that we remove important things.

Armed police officers launched a blitz targetting car dealers and people selling cabins, bricks, pre-cast walls, flowers, goats, sheep, cement and charcoal.

Front-end loaders were used where business owners failed to pull down their structures on time.
