The SADC-Climate Services Centre said that very high temperatures are expected in the region until Thursday this week, raising the possibility of a heatwave during the period.

In a statement on Monday, SADC-Climate Services Centre identified central parts of the region as prone to experiencing extreme summer temperatures. Part of the statement reads:

> Persistent temperatures in the range of 30 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius are expected in bulk of central SADC in the next five days.

> Parts of central SADC will experience temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius over a consecutive period of three days and occasions where temperatures have a high probability to exceed 40 degrees Celsius, thus reaching the threshold for heatwave alert during the forecast period.

A high probability of a heatwave is forecasted on extreme south-eastern Angola, north and easternmost parts of Botswana, eastern half of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), and northern fringes and the southern half of Zimbabwe, among other areas.
