Commercial farmers in Zimbabwe have said that they are adopting strategies which are meant to revive the agriculture sector which has been a shadow of its former self since two decades ago.

Among other strategies, farmers have resolved that during the forthcoming agricultural season, they will be adopting drought-resistant crops and will be applying chemicals to head off the devastating effects of pests including the notorious armyworm.

This comes as the country has been reduced to a basket case over the past 20 years and is currently facing severe starvation due to natural disasters and mismanagement of funds meant for government-initiated agricultural schemes such as the Command Agriculture.

Agriculture Minister, Retired Chief Air Marshal, Perrance Shiri, commended leading agriculture inputs suppliers for their efforts. He said:

> I would like to commend your resolution to bring back agricultural vibrancy as commercial farmers, this will certainly go a long way in the development of Zimbabwe in general.

Tawanda Mangisi, the representative of a local seed house, Syngenta took the opportunity to introduce a new variety with a potential of producing 12 tonnes per hectare and is also an early, maturity variety.
