A Masvingo man was on Tuesday arrested by police officers on patrol in Mucheke after he was found in possession of 10kg of marijuana worth over $2 000.

Michael Muzembi fled to his house where he locked himself up after he had encountered the police patrol team in the suburb.

The officers pursued him to his house where they waited by the door until he came out.

Muzembi confessed that he had fled the officers because he was a mbanje peddler. After searching the house, the officers found 3,649kg under the bed, 5.833kg in the toilet and 1,503kg of the drug in his VW Golf car.

The accused implicated his relatives, Charlene Kutadza (24) and Albertina Muzembi (33).

The trio was expected to appear in court to answer to charges of being illegally in possession of the mbanje.
