Zvimba traditional leaders have threatened to boycott the burial of the former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.

This comes as the burial has been slated for Saturday 27 September in Zvimba, Mugabe’s rural home.

Chief Zvimba, full name Katiza Gombo – Gibson Jenami, told the Herald that the change in venue and place of burial was as a result of Mugabe family’s dissent to National Heroes Acre burial. The traditional leader said:

> It come as a shock to us. But from the word go there was conflicts between chiefs from Zvimba and his wife, Grace Mugabe.

> The chiefs had settled for the National Heroes Acre, since the former President spent most of his life as a nationalist. He worked closely with President Mnangagwa for 54 years. We had approached the Government and settled for the National Heroes Acre.

There were reports suggesting that the traditional leaders had been bribed by President Mnangagwa to settle for the National Heroes Acre burial.

The Herald reports that there are allegations suggesting that the former first lady, Grace Mugabe wanted the remains of her late husband to be entombed at their Blue Roof residence but the idea was shot down.

Mugabe died on the 6th of September in Singapore where he was receiving medical attention.

Observers believe that his burial is critical to the incumbent government as it has the potential to cleanse the coup through which Mugabe was removed from power.

A burial in Zvimba is likely not to be presided over by the government, hence blow to Mnangagwa.
