With salaries stagnant and prices skyrocketing there is a sense of pessimism which is a groundswell for discontent. Other challenges have emerged or worsened since he took over from his former boss, Robert Mugabe. The country now has a huge power deficit, a problem the country had last experienced several years ago. The soaring inflation, which risks reviving the memories of hyperinflationary 2008, has eroded workers’ salaries. The citizenry feels disillusioned as some argue that we were promised “heaven but now we are in hell”.
