The Ministry of Local Government which sent a probe team last week to investigate the allegations revealed that in the event that Bulawayo councillors were found guilty of corruption charges raised against them, a commission would stand in and run the affairs of the city. ---------- Latest itel S24 available on Pindula: 128GB storage $119 USD WhatsApp +263783450793 ---------- The suggestions followed a dispute between councillors and the Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, which resulted in the city’s deputy Mayor suspending the clerk. Deputy Mayor, Tinashe Kambarami, cited the clerk’s failure to address the water crisis and mismanagement of public funds as the reasons behind the suspension. The suspension was however reversed 24 hours later by Mayor, Solomon Mguni who argued that the suspension would destabilise the city. After the Mayor and the body convened a closed-door meeting, chairperson of the Aldermen’s Forum, Phineas Ndlovu said: > We met with the mayor and he briefed us about the matter that took place two weeks ago at council. He said the issue is before the courts. However, as the aldermen, we are waiting to review the outcome that comes from the ministry of Local Government whose team is on the ground investigating. > As aldermen, we are not part of those calling for a commission, we do not have a reason to say we want this commission. Ndlovu added that the Forum was now waiting for the final verdict from the ministry’s commission.
