*Did Strive Masiyiwa Trick Masisi Into Fighting For Him In MASCOM Wars?* *Follow Pindula on WhatsApp for daily new updates* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va84dngJP21B2nWeyM3v?iy Botswana Gazette reports that there is fresh information suggesting that ECONET Wireless founder, Strive Masiyiwa tricked Botswana President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, into legitimising his quest to take over Mascom shareholding. The publication also alleges that Masiyiwa, who bought MTN shares in Mascom, wanted Masisi’s endorsement so that Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) would also support him. Botswana Gazette further reports that Masiyiwa knew that Masisi, during his campaign, would need to appease the unemployed youth. The advent of ECONET would mean more jobs for the youths. ---------- Latest itel S24 available on Pindula: 128GB storage $119 USD WhatsApp +263783450793 ---------- Meanwhile, the involvement of Masisi was meant to influence BPOPF into supporting Masiyiwa since it was opposed to Masiyiwa’s take over of Mascom. However, Boitumelo Molefe, Principal Officer at the BPOPF reportedly turned down the invitation by Masisi’s office to partake at the Town Hall discussion together with Masiyiwa and Masisi. At a press conference about two weeks back, Masisi reportedly said that he was aware that he was being accused of supporting Masiyiwa at the expense of BPOPF. He, however, said that he only wanted to bring an investor into Botswana and that he was not involved in any boardroom wars at Mascom. Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) is reportedly against the deal between ECONET and MTN. BOCRA Director Corporate Communications and Consumer Affairs, Aaron Nyelesi, said that the regulator had powers to revoke the licence if a change in ownership was detrimental to the development of the telecommunications sector.
