Zimbabwean teachers are reportedly being cheated by their representative organisations who are taking advantage of the current economic crises. Teachers’ associations have been accused of fleecing their clients through bogus housing schemes.

A Herald article notes that ZIMTA is one of the associations that is cheating its clients. Part of the article reads:

> News within our earshot is that the Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association  (ZIMTA), has joined the legion of bogus organisations that have milked teachers dry in the past. After being duped by bogus organisations, e.g. non-existent Africa Home,  the teachers sought solace and protection from ZIMTA. But we gather, it has become a tale of from the frying pan into the fire.

ZIMTA is reported to have allocated a group of teachers some stands in Thornicroft, Kuwadzana Phase Two, Stoneridge and Budiriro in Harare which have owners already. It is reported that the association continues to deduct money from teachers’ salaries for non-existent stands.
