Assistant Secretary for U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs Tibor Nagy demanded that those responsible for the wanton human rights violations should be held accountable. We call on the government to respect human rights, hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations and immediately end all violence by government forces. Soldiers have been accused of beating up members of the public, breaking the bones of some in the process. There are reports of women being raped by men in military fatigues in high-density suburbs. However, the Zimbabwean government has scoffed at criticism for its heavy-handedness.
