We Can't Lift Zimbabwe With 75% Of Skilled People In The Diaspora - Ibbo Mandaza

We Can't Lift Zimbabwe With 75% Of Skilled People In The Diaspora - Ibbo Mandaza

Dr Ibbo Mandaza, a politician, academic and businessman who is also the director of a local think-tank Sapes Trust has said it is difficult to revive the Zimbabwean economy with about 75 per cent of the skilled people living in the diaspora.

Brain drain worsened at the turn of the millennium when the economy collapsed. Skilled personnel continue to leave the country en masse, at every chance, citing poor salaries and working conditions.

Speaking at the memorial service of the late Law expert, Alex Tawanda Magaisa, a former Chief of Staff in the office of the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai, Mandaza said Zimbabwe has been overtaken by its African counterparts. He said:

75% of Zimbabwe’s skilled people are outside the country, and Alex was one of them. We can’t lift this country out of this mess without those people. Tanzania is now 40 years ahead of Zimbabwe. Kenya is 10 times ahead of us.

Many Zimbabweans scattered around the globe are taking influential positions in various companies and governments while Zimbabwe is struggling.

Some analysts blame the ruling ZANU PF for the brain drain saying the party was responsible for the collapse of the economy.

Econet Wireless founder, Strive Masiyiwa, a former PTC employee, leads a legion of skilled Zimbabweans living in the diaspora.

ED's weight alone is 99.9% of Zim's weight and as long as he is president hakuna anogona kusimudza Zim. More skilled workers will flood out of Zim or continue to flood the streets as vendors until their skills become obsolete.

I agree with Ibbo Mandaza a 100% times. I want to give the field of health as a good example. There were problems in this field. Someone thought the best solution was to post one with intimidatory tendencies. As soon as he arrived nurses and doctors migrated in droves for greener pastures overseas. This was a misposting. Zimbabwe policies have driven skilled labour to other countries in the region where they have taken up senior positions in commerce and industry.

Fresh blood, I mean fresh from Tertiary and younger generation are highly skilled give them the job. Believe me you, you will see wonders.

So, don't blame brain drain do good at work place, I mean exercising good work practices and manage favourable conditions then you will say we have managed to retain our lost talent, they will come backed with skills we are not even compatible with, more advanced skills.

Follow the history the Great China it has the trained scientists now but at one time in the late 70s to 80s it suffered from brain drain as well because workers were tired with govt's bad work practices and poor wages, when China felt the loss it then built the best laboratories at home and art of the nation world class factories and set the best competitive wages as those that were stipulated in the foreign pastures where it's talent had already gone for better. See what happened, most of the workers who were in exile automatically went to secure the best positions in their home China and brought to China the best experience, can't you witness where China is standing now.

Batai vashandi bhoo hakuitiki brain drain vaMandaza muri munhu Mukuru imi musafunge seshwere... Muzera mudiki kubasa ndovachakafumbata zvinofambirana nenguva, hurumende yotsigirawo nekubata mushandi zvemandorokwati talent yose yakaenda kunze yodzoka kuzoshandira kunze...

Thee brain drain is good for those who have lots of I'll gotten money as they can have lots of poor people who can be used for anything. That is why not all people are not worried about the brain drain as they will have no competition.

Skilled people will continue leaving this country until our leaders make a correction to their system of governance. Our leaders needs to craft Sustainable Wealth Creation models which guarantees revival of all broken down industries. Recapitalization of all productive avenues to optimise levels ofoutput.

How did Ibbo Joseph (his name before independence) arrive at this 75% figure.
Lets not be led astray discussing figures from someone's head.

Statistically Literate 1 month ago

I didnt say its wrong.I just queried kuti akaiwanepi? With technological advances not all fields of endeavour require physical presence in Zim. Alex Magaisa contributed immensely while based in UK.

whats ur basis yekuti that figure is wrong.Kana iri wrong how significant is it coz generally pple ar leaving zim can u argue tat?
