Tsvangirai's Former Chief Strategist To Run For President

Tsvangirai's Former Chief Strategist To Run For President

The late former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s chief strategist, Maxwell Shumba, says he will contest the 2023 presidential elections.

Shumba, who is now based in the United States of America, leads Zimbabwe People First (ZimFirst). He said:

ZimFirst is a people first party that is founded on principles of accountability, honesty and unity.

Our key message to the Zimbabwean people is we put forward the people’s welfare because people come first.

Our core message to the people of Zimbabwe is that we got independence, yes and we need to unite to fight the war against poverty that has afflicted the majority of citizens because of ZANU PF, corruption, greed (and) incompetence.

ZimFirst has come with a leadership that is untainted, clean, and fresh.

Shumba said his party has devised a campaign strategy in response to how ZANU PF works and how it manages to stay in power despite its “unpopularity”. He said:

We do have a strategy for them that is beyond merely holding rallies to show off supporters.

We launched a Silent Revolution (Chimhukutira/Umtshetsha Phansi). Chimhukutira is a unique strategy that was developed based on the experience of past opposition failures to defeat Zanu PF.

I cannot divulge the details of our strategy, but I would like the nation to know that ZimFirst is here with a transformative vision for the country and ask for their support because together we will make Zimbabwe work again.

Shumba failed to contest in the 2018 elections as his party had just been formed.

Apart from milking his past association with Save, what has this Shumba done for the people of Zimbabwe? Apart from saying he has a strategy (albeit secretly harboured) what has he to offer to Zimbabwe?

Strategically and comfortably ensconced in the USA, Shumba muri kure ne epicentre of Zimbabwean politics. I strongly suggest you remain where you are and not split the opposition vote.

Political immaturity is Zims biggest problem. Hakuna chinonzi vote splitting in elections, democratic elections. Democracy is about people making free choices on who should lead them in the development of their communities. Zanupf does not own voters neither does CCC, the voters belong to Zimbabwe.
I see CCC copying zanupf in the desire for a one party state

@Machiavelli. For once, let me respectfully differ with you. The reason why so many parties emerge, stems from the mainstream political parties' inability to accommodate what they see as small & insignificant party leaders. Ask Jacob Ngarivhume about how he was treated at the inception of the MDC Alliance. Remember, power is a matter of individual perception & choice. A man who leads a few people may feel more comfortable and powerful than a man who leads millions. A small man can cast a large shadow. Like Lord Tyrion Lanister. the imp in Game of Thrones. One Rossa Parks, refusing to get up & go seat in the back of bus can change the entire civil rights narrative. The majority in the majority of times is often wrong. A minority can have a clearer perception of things because their judgement is not clouded by the Herd mentality. The majority often forfeit their thinking to the leaders. In the Serengeti, it is the sceptical Wilderbeast that survives while majority of the herd plunges into into a gorge or into the jaws of the Nile crocodiles. So lets have many political parties, big & small & lets not force others to see things our way.

@Tintin, I hear you. Democracy is a two-edged sword. At worst it could mean oppression of the minority by the majority. The current priority in Zimbabwe as we stand is to show The Old People's Home the exit door. In my view that should be the national priority.

Why waste 2000 votes that are going to mean zilch to the electorate because vote for Tsenengamu or Linda Masarira, much as they have redeeming features are certainly not going get anywhere near State House?

Tintin 3 weeks ago

@ Machiavelli I respect your arguments but its a democracy people are free to contest and also free to vote for whosoever they want to vote for, that's objectivity at it's best.but you on the other hand my learned friend you are arguing from a subjective point of view arguing as CCC supporter not everyone is and it's their choice and you have to respect that . that's why it's a democracy in the first place.thank you.

Pity @Maparamuro that you haven't heard of something called a Protest Vote. To assist you a protest vote is that vote which is directed AGAINST a particular candidate/party, for an opposing candidate/party without necessarily supporting the aims and objectives of the opposing party/candidate.

In other words there are plenty of people, including Shumba, Egypt Dzinemunenzwa, Sikhosana Moyo, Simba Makoni Godfrey Tsenengamu Temba Mliswa, Hosiah Chipanga and others who are opposed to ZANU. These should be persuaded to support Chamisa instead of voting for a plethora of no-hoppers who garner a measly 1%, which if it were directed at Chamisa would make a difference
